Jenna Raef and Chris Hatch Find Gold on the Way to Omaha
Omaha, NE (DAY 1) - The temperatures were sizzling and so were the Jets. Jenna Raef became the state champion by leaping 3'09" in the bantam girls high jump division. Jenna will compete in the National Junior Olympics in Omaha next month. Chris Hatch battled the best in the state and brought home the gold medal in the boys intermediate 800. Chris set a club record and a personal best in a time of 2:03.65 automatic time. Chris will tune up in Bellevue next week before heading for Miami to compete in the Age Group Nationals. Then, it's on to Omaha with Jenna for the J.O. Nationals. With 1,051 athletes competing over two days, Madison MacLean finished 5th in the discus with a throw of 38'09". Madison also threw the shot put for a P/R best of 20'7.5". Alex Scheideler brought home a medal in the bantam javelin throw with a toss of 65'05". James Ford finished 5th in the young men's discus, tossing it 115'11". Austin Novotny just missed qualifying for nationals with a 4th place triple jump of 37'03.25". The midget boys 4x400 relay team also missed qualifying for nationals with a time of 5:2412. The club record landed a club record and included Jeff Morrison, Nate Key, Jay Kilpatrick and Stirlng Hedderich. Day 1 also saw Will Scheideler 8th, 800; Kelsie Roth 7th, high jump; Bailey Roth 9th, high jump; Jackson MacLean 23rd, long jump; Alex Scheideler 10th, shot put; Stirling Hedderich, 16th, 800; Nate Key 20th, 800 and 18th 80 hurdles; Jonathan Rife, 10th 3000; Jay Kilpatrick finals 7th, 80 hurdles; Jeff Morrison 10th, 80 hurdles; Madison MacClean 30th, long jump and 8th, shot put; Robbie Morrison 16th, 100 and 11th, long jump; Austin Novotny 9th high jump. Omaha, NE (DAY 2) - Will Scheidler was superman on this day. On his very first throw in the javelin, Will broke the state record with a toss of 120'01" It took a national record toss on the last throw by his arch rival from Beatrice to beat him. Will's silver medal and trip to Omaha also saw him leap over a foot above his P/R to finish 5th in the boy midget long jump. The jump was 15'01". Chris Hatch ran 6 seconds faster than his P/R in the boys intermediate 1500 to latch onto second place. Chris ran 4:16.65 within a hour of finishing a tough 400 in the blazing sun. The third fantastic performance by a Jet came from Elizabeth Wild. Elizabeth high jumped a club and P/R record jump of 5'02". She had to pass on her final 2 attempts do to a 5th place finish in the 200 that took place at the same time. Gabby, Bailey and Kelsie Roth found themselves on Channel 42, Fox News on Day 2. The interview was super press for the Jets and lots of fun for the kids. The Jets finished the competition with 4 athletes qualifying for Nationals in 5 events, 16 P/R's and 7 club records. Gabby Roth competed in the 200, long jump and 400; Bailey Roth competed in the 200 and the 400. Kelsie Roth finished 16th in the long jump and competed in the 200. Lindsay Key finished 15th in the 200 and 15 in the 400. Clayton Hullet finished 8th in the javelin and competed in the long jump and 200. Stirling Hedderich had a personal best in the 1500 and Jonathan Rife also ran the 1500. Jeff Morrison competed in the long jump. |
