Jets Fly Over St. Thomas University

Avrie Welton and Christian Sanderfer Regional Champions

St. Paul, MN. - St. Thomas University was the site of the 2003 Region XIII track meet. Commercial jets were flying over the stadium when our own Jet, Christian Sanderfer streeked to a club record 1:06.44 in 400 meter dash to give him the gold in the Bantam division triathlon. Christian scored 597 points to win the championship. Along his journey, Christian also recorded a 3'11.25" high jump to also erase the Jets club record. On Saturday, Christian was the fastest qualifier in the bantam 200 meter dash. His rival from the Striders edged him on Sunday to give Christian the silver medal in a time of 29.3 seconds.

The Jets performanaces were just outstanding. The 2003 Jets recorded 18 medals from 15 individuals. Seven new club records were established during the 4 day event. The Jets had two gold medal winners and three runner-up champions. The Jets recorded five 3rd place finishes, one 4th place finish and six 6th place finishes.

Avrie Welton continued her see-saw battle with her teammate Kelsey Roth in the bantam girls high jump. Avrie leaped 3'11.25" to win the regional championship and Kelsey finished second. Avrie just missed on a club record try of 4'1.25".

In addition to Kelsey and Christian, Will Scheideler was the Jets third national qualifier with a club record leap of 33'10.5" in the youth boys triple jump. Will broke his own club record in the javelin with a 4th place toss of 111'5". Will also finished 5th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.17 and a 12th place finish in the long jump.
